The work of the Co-Co’s foundation in South Africa was told to members by Susan Knight, who earlier this year visited the country as a volunteer. Among the aims of the foundation are to build houses; provide proper clothing and food and tackle education problems. A member of a Surrey Rotary Club she illustrated her talk with photos taken while acting as a volunteer. She was thanked by Past President Maria Blackburn. The speaker was accompanied by her husband, John, who is President of Redhill, Reigate and District Rotary Club, who received a club pennant from President Graham Larcombe.

Golfers who are members of the Club, took part in a competition at St. Augustine’s with Richard Baker running out the winner. It was the 58th annual competition for the Arthur Rogers cup, and there was a larger entry than last year. The evening, which concluded with a meal for club members, was organised by Past President Derek Brown, who also presented the trophy. All Thanet Rotary Clubs were represented at the handover meeting of the Ramsgate Club when Graham Larcombe took over the presidency from Julie Miller. Also present was a group from the Club’s twin of Boulogne-Sur Mer, led by President Denys Fabritius. in a speech outlining plans for the coming year, Graham Larcombe said it has been decided that a special arrangement would be made with the recently opened holiday home for young cancer sufferers and their relatives. The aim, agreed by the next three Presidents, is to provide £3,000 for the YouCan Youth Cancer Support group. In addition the club will have at least one charity speaker each month with donations to each being made at the end of the Rotary Year, Mr Larcombe, a member of Rotary since 1979, has been a member of Ramsgate club for the past five years and said he looked forward to a busy year with many events being run in conjunction with the Inner Wheel. He also looked forward to activities with Boulogne. He paid tribute to the work done by President Julie, and the officers, especially Secretary David Blackwell, and looked forward to having close connections with the other Thanet clubs.
